I think he needs it on the exterior of the car... so ash tray isn't going to help

Is the switch going to operate as a failsafe if the keyfob stops working?

just remembered you can get this sensor that goes in the corner of your dash, so when you tap the glass on your windscreen the door open.

I'll try and find the link

like adam said, roo rail mate
Where the current slidy bit is (you push it down and slid it back for the roof rack), well i turn that into a switch, so you press it down to open the doors

Or, you press the slidy bit in and push it back to reveal a button underneath

how come?
surely you would just drill through the roof, grommet/seal it and run the wire in the roof lining, down the pillars and into the door multi-block etc etc

tbh mate, if you put a button under the slidy bit (ie: you press the bit in, slide it back to reveal button underneath), then you would drill a hole for the button and the wires would be on the inside Just make sure that you seal the button nicely - both inside and out
Only problem i see is that you havnt got alot of room in the roof lining to play with, so the button height cant be that big, which could be a problem if you need a heavy duty amp'age switch for the solenoid....although you could use a little switch and wack a relay on the thing for the solenoid etc

Would look pretty smart too, especially if you had the rails sprayed up and there right above the doors so its convinent for people etc

Although, personally i would go to the extra trouble to make the slidy bit an actual switch, rather than having to slid it back to reveal a switch underneath....would make it look more professional and "part of the car"

aye, its simple idea mate, but it is abit of work to do, especially when it comes to the multiblock

Although, that switch you have looks abit long? especially with the connections at the bottom, since there is about 1" or less between the outside metal work and the inside of the car
But you said you had a play, so you can roughly see whether it will fit or not, plus the switch you have looks like a propper weather switch suitable for outside stuff etc
Although HERE and HERE are two switches, coupled with a relay, would work well, especially since there really tiny

Anyways, it looks like a good option and like i said before its in a nice convient place and if you had the switch in the scuttle panel you would need to insulate them alot better that...although if you go wrong, you can replace the scuttle panel, where as you cant with a roof

Take it to a bodyshop mate or someone that deals with this kinda stuff and see what they say

depends on how much the solenoid draws mate Check the spec of the switch and and compair it to the solenoid etc...although personally i would just relay it (using a relay that can handle the amp'age of the solenoid etc) as you can then get away with thinner cable running through the roof lining and into the doors etc

Although from looking at the pic posted, it doesnt look like it draws that much, so you should be alright as is...just double check figures of switch etc etc

how about the flap under the boot button (or where it was id its smoothed) as you dont really wanna show it off to ppl that they can open the door by pushing a button on the scuttle or something, so it may look like the boot is being opened, or checked its locked!?
