Yeah thats an RAF Tristar Tanker. Has 3 engines, 1 under each wing and a 3rd in the tail. the intake is above the fueslage and exhaust is out of the rear.

How the hell did you get that close to the planes to photograph them and not get arrested for plotting to bomb em etc etc, lol

I was still outside the fence.


thre is a farm road that runs on the outside of the runway. I was at the very last ILS light

think you will find it is. The red stripes underneath are where the refuelling booms come out from.

good pics there! ive been inside a tristar and yes they are tankers, they have a retractable boom that comes out at the back to fill all the jet fighters up in mid flight its clever how they do it unno!

im also a glider pilot!

ye above larger buildings and mainly fields its great gliding, really calm and all round views, cant beat it, good fun as they can fly backwards in a strong wind!

tristars don;t have booms like th american tankers - they have wee cones that the planes plug into. not all tristars are tankers

Correct, a few are transporters, but most are tankers. This is a tanker.
