They can prosecute based on video evidence even if they don't stop you, however its less paperwork and thus more likely they'd have stopped you there and then for stuff like that.

Does anyone know wot imformation is avaiable to the police by them putting your number plate in a system and searching.
I'm wondering if they know if you have a licence or not just by scanning your plate?

I read that on a police website. All it said is that they know if your banned, terriorist in a corsa with neon lights, and if your car is registered. So they can only find out if you have a licence, insurance etc if they pull you over am i correct?

yep i do,im asking because i know somebody who does not have a (you know wot) but he has insurance i think. He nearly got pulled over tonight. The copped put he blue lights on and was coming up from behind.he stayed behind for a while and then whizzed passed and turned his lights off.I rekon the coppers got an important call and he was lucky.
Does anyone know if they can still find out because he rekons they noted his plate and thats why they where hovering behind him

Don't think they know from plate, but he'd be screwed if they gave him a producer.

They can't tell if a driver is banned by a number plate check as of course the registered keeper may not be driving.
They can tell everything else about insurance, tax etc., its only a big database.
For the record, your mate is a cock.

Given to drivers at officers' discretion, means the person who's been stopped must produce their documents (Licence, Insurance and MOT) at a police station within 7 days (I think thats the time limit)
Failure to produce leads to bad things.

They can tell pretty much anything, whether its taxed/insured/MOT'd and whether the owner has a license or not. Everything is interconnected with the DVLA database now. They can tell if you have any outstanding warrants for arrest etc too.
Thats why they have the plate recognition vans, if it shows an alert then the police down the road pull you in for a chat, they do it where i work on a regular basis and pull loads of people, some have to walk home and have their cars taken away.

Hes insured but hes on a provisional licence.I'm assuming that they would of pulled him over if they ran a check and found out or should he be expecting a letter maybe? I too am on a provisional and insured but only go out on l plates with a driver over 21 with min 3 years driving.I've got my test very soon.If i got caught but told them i never had my documents, and therefore had 7 days to show them at a station.Wots if i passed on the 7th day? Just wondering

You can't get points for it but its a few hundred quid fine I think. Then there's the issue of where your documents actually are, which is an entirely difference offence and which will be pursued separately.
As for your mate, he's insured as a learner when supervised. If he bends it without someone with him, he can expect to fund the repair himself and be prosecuted for being uninsured.
The penalties are not big enough IMO. Hopefully whoever he knocks down will sue him for loss of earnings for the rest of their 20 year career. That'll make the 15 minute journey worth it
