and cant get the 2 clips out from the very bottom. do you clip them both together at the same time then lift the white bit up? Can they be unclipped whilst you leave the gear stick in gear. Its hard to get to the front clip when the gear sticks in neutral, and slightly easier to get to when you place the gear stick in 5th.
