budget for 2 grand minimum for about 150bhp. After that it depends how deep your pockets are. 250bhp and 10K rpm rev limit available if you have enough £££'s.

With Throttle bodies you have a complete new inlet manifold anyway, you run a complete new engine management system, and you have to have the Internals uprated so that you can rev to about 7.5k to make the most of the mods anyway.

You can get a reliable 180bhp with:
TB's and engine management
good exhaust manifold and free flowing exhaust
gas flowed head
mild (264 degree) cams
uprated rod bolts and cam belt tensioners

This set up will give you a wide flat torque curve and peak power around 7700rpm. Apart from rod bolts, no need to uprate any internals. It will also comfortably outperform a red top conversion

You could get the Alpha Gold kit, if they make one for the C16XE, because that is a full DIY kit and is meant to work very well.

150bhp can easily be achieved out of the X16XE for no more than £1500 maybe a little less.
