cos i have changed my car, im insured on it but the cover note hasnt come thru yet, and i need to drive it? so just wondered what the risk is?

The police have no power over tax anymore, they inform the DVLA and they check when the car was last taxed and then charge you back tax for that date up till now

nah don't think so eck.....Police can issue you still with on the spot fine..So can traffic wardens still..
Up £1000 and car towed away too in extreme circumstance..
If that was the case eck why would we have to tax car on time if it just gets back dated...
Can also get points on your licence for NO tax...........

I was stopped for speeding in the corsa when I first got it and had no tax, the copper told me that they would inform the DVLA bout it and they would make me pay the back tax on it, wasnt issued with an on the spot fine or threatened to have the car taken off me????

yep plus if your cars not SORNed and its got no tax on it the DVLA will send registered owner a fine through the post anyway! Not sure about if its jus changed hands but that def the case if you dont renew on time so i'd assume it also the case in your situation
