Astra doesnt look as nice a 306, or handle as well. Definately slower than a tuned one too, as well as less economical. Ur friend is silly.

well his 306 was the crap 1.9 turbo.

think it had 90bhp unlike the other which has 110bhp,

but the astra as far as im concerned it heavier and as you say wont handle aswell .

i drove a 1.6 astra 1v and didnt have much in i betwen mine.

infact i think they were more or less same.

95, and the 155lbf/ft of torque is something you won't see on the Astra.

The 1.9 mechanical DTurbo engine is hardly 'crap'. Its a proven + tested engine, that is tunable to 115bhp with the twist of 3 screws. Peugeot never made a 110bhp 306. The HDi was 90bhp, and is exactly the same performace wise as the DT, just more economical.

The 1.8 16v Astra was on about a par with my tuned D Turbo, but the brakes were shite, it understeered dangerously and was generally an uninspiring drive.
