it shouldnt disconnect anyway! if you've been promised that its an "always on " service, then you need to complain. Tiscali is ADSL? then it shouldnt disconnect without you either turning the pc off or closing the the two little computer screens in the corner, or pulling the modem out of the USB port. at wanadoo, we get complaints all the time about it!

aahh! go to internet option, go to connection, go to advanced and take the tick away from 'disconnect if idle for ** minutes. apply and reststart, fixed!

You didn't mention if you have a modem or a router......if you have a router, there'll be an "Idle Timeout" setting on the router; otherwise, do the following in XP Pro:
1. Start Menu
2. Settings (may not be an option, depends on version of XP; go to next if not there)
3. Control Panel
4. Network Connections
5. Right-click on Tiscali ADSL connection icon, Properties
6. Options tab
7. Disable "Idle time before hanging up"
Voila......if it's still doing it, try the same from your test-socket (carefully take the faceplate off your master telephone socket, behind it is the test socket to one side of the main socket) with ALL other telephony equipment (phones, faxes, Sky Digital, alarm-systems, etc) unplugged.
If it's still doing it, try swapping your microfilters for new ones, and if still no joy, have fun trying to get through to someone at Tiscali's helpdesk who actually doesn't need everything repeating 27 times.
