Still having trouble gettin cool induction temperatures on my 306, due to the poor way the engine is layed out.

I want to cut all the crap out and re-plumb the induction system, using a BMC CDA Carbon fiber air box thingy.

Will this work ok on a turbo engine?

cheers

Why so strongly on the NO then vibs? Will it be worse than my current set up (which is a foam piper X cone thing)

It made quite a difference to the intercooler temperatures, yeah! Actually noticabley different drive home from cool louvres once they were done even!

However, i would not consider having any more stamped in, basically because i dont want to clutter up the bonnet/car!

lol - ok kool. thought u had just used a "enclosed filter", as opposed to actually having used a BMC

how comes Pipercross Viper, Dynatwist and BMC are all available for turbo engines?

Matt

PS: I'm not scruiteneering ur knowledge, just generally wondering. I mean i can under stand their theoretical poorness on a turbo engine due to the reduced air volume!?

De-restricted airbox and premium panel filter is best combination.

The funny thing is, the airbox on a 306 is almost identical shape and size to the BMC CDA! lol. But u cant de-restrict the air box on the pug coz of the way its made, it would just suck in shit from the road if u drilled it etc.

All the reports i've read on the BMC are good. I'm gettin it cheap, so i'll give it a run, and sell if its poo i think :s Anything is better than the set up i have now, which is abismal! lol

I said de-restrict not drill.

Drilling is no good as it lets hot air in.

De-restricting is taking the pipes from inside the box out.

ah it doesnt have any pipes in it....but it does have 2m of pipe work leading to it, which is what i want to sort out, and get the filter close to the turbo! Doin this with the std air box would be impossible.

At the mo i'm using a foam pipercross, which is very warm after a run! lol

no, an open cone filter is best on a turbo car.

It's all bullshit.

I'm currently using a de-restricted airbox and premium panel filter and really hope other people aren't running with the same setup.
I've even tried to change the internal volume of the airbox to try and improve throttle response, but nothing works.

Induction kit every time.

yeah but only if its mounted in a cool position! Anywhere near heat and they are shite, just make a noise. The BFO was a prime example of this.

A couple of weeks ago I flogged the Viper, switched to a BFO and then decided to try the airbox with panel filter.

The BFO was loud and didn't perform as well as the Viper, but it was still a lot better for throttle response than the airbox.
I drive 80 miles a day in traffic so there's enough time for the engine to get hot.

The BFO did seem to be all noise and no go, but on downgrading to the panel it's even more lacklustre.

intercooler cools it down anyway. wen i stuck my drilled airbox back on it was noticably slower.

Closer in respect that before it was over 2m of piping! I'm hoping to get that down to around 50cm. I'm sure this is likely to improve both response, and i'll get a louder turbo whistle

It doesnt help if my induction temperatures are reading 35-40deg. It always better for induction air to be as cool as possible to start with, meaning the temp after the turbo is LOWER, and there for the air entering the inlet manifold is lower.
