Right.
As some of you may know my mum was involved in a car crash. She's out of hospital, although shes has a HUGE scar from her left eyebrow up through her hairline. She won't grow hair there again. She also has a very bad eye thats bloodshot, a black eye and various other injuries. Still has the neckbrace on.
However --
As she was in hospital so long, we had to take her phone calls and reply to her correspondence. As it happens she was in tens of thousands of pounds worth of debt for various things. She's always been the type of person to do/buy things just to please, particularly with my little brothers...buying them lots of things including a holiday to Florida in august and 18ft trampoline for the back. I just always thought she was earning it outright as she had got a new job in Hitchin. She can't work for about a year because of her injuries and has NO money whatsoever.
All of my family have pitched in, in some way and I've decided to sell my car to clear some of the money she owes. We reckon she owes about £20,000.
It's a fucking pain in the arse considering I've spent quite a bit already fixing the car (it was not far off being a none-runner when I first bought it)..and its also had a few extras too. I'd also just finished painting and trimming my interior bits and was quite impressed. I've persuaded the travel agents to refund on the trip to Florida too.
Just beware that things like this can get the better of you. Only 2 weeks ago I knew nothing of this and there was no car crash. In a week or so I won't have a car
You've all been really helpful on here..and v. supportive with the accident. car will be up for sale very soon on here again and I'll only be looking for £3200.
Oh well! Thanks again.
Regards
Dave

Well look at it as only being a lump of metal eh.....family is much more important, think everyone would do the same in your situation. Bit shitty your mother having all that debt without anyone knowing tho, I dlame the banks for making it FAR too easy! Although she should control her spending, I never spend beond my means and never want to.

Thats exactly what everyones been saying....banks should put more control on the money they let people borrow
Her cars a total write off but shes fully comp so I'm going persuade her to get a cheap shitter in the mean time. The car she wrote of was a 2004 Corsa (C) Active 1.3.

daveyboyuk - yep thats a good point which I was going to mention, but I feel better showing why I'm selling the car considering I've put quite a bit of effort into affording it.
Hate seeing her like this. I know its not a nice thing to say but the only real comparison at the moment is with mason verger from 'hannibal'...her faces is just such a mess...don't feel comfortable looking at her - not in a disgusted way...just don't like seeing her like this. She was so happy a week ago.
Mattb - nope not yet and doubt they ever will
Personally, the decision I've made to sell I believe is the best one. Also I'd rather get rid of it now than decide to do something like this further down the line. I know lots of you guys have spent £££££'s on your cars and I was definately intending on doing that. As with all cars you don't get back what you paid for, so I definately think that its the best time for it to go.
Thanks again you lot.

Mate thats awful, i feel for ya,
Family is important, and they allways say it has to get worse b4 it gets better, so just hope that you and your family will be all sorted and on top of the world again
Its allways hard in these situations to say something but i think what your doing is stand up. World would be a nicer place if there were more people like yourself.
Good luck mate, all the best

I'm glad your Ma is on the mend! She should put in for compensation for not being able to work etc, that might help a bit.
