slacken the nut to the end of the thread. now get a piece of bar like a socket extension,place it in the at dead centre of the steering column and wallop it with a lump hammer. the shock should loosen the splines off and allow the wheel to come off easily.
make sure the bar is smaller than the steering column or it will round the end off and the nut wil never come off.

i've just done mine and had to give it a bit of sideways leverage until it finally came off. remember to leave the nut on though as it is spring loaded and will smack you in the mush .
