My car seems to be a little thirsty compared to some peoples corsas on here. Its a 1.4 16v sport and i usually get around 75-80 miles from £10 @ 81.9p per litre.

Is that good or what? If thats bad what can i do to try and make it better? I dont constantly thrash my car either. I think the most i ever got was 90 miles from £10, that was very light driving with very early gear changes etc...

remove weight from your car, dont open the windows, dont use anything electrical, eg lights, stereo, heaters etc...
drive at 50 mph everywhere.
personally i think there is something wrong with it.

5th gear is always used, if you've ever driven in Milton Keynes you'll understand the need for 5th gear.

Kris - I often have my window down, i often have my side lights on, stereo is ALWAYS on, heaters never on. What could possibly be wrong if you reckon it has something wrong with it? Timing? Flush the system maybe? Change sparks and all that?

i can easily get 100 miles from £10.

a good RR session will be able to tell if it's running rich. Also check the condition of your plugs. These are a good indicator of engine condition/health.

If it is running rich i suggest checking/replacing the lambda sensor first. Maybe also your coolant sensor.

i can easily get over 100 miles to a tenner, usually costs me about 26 to fill up and i norm get about 330 miles from that so think it works out at like 44 miles to gallon or somethin like that at todays petrol prices! LOL

Its not as fun

Seriously though i dont drive like a lunatic and the mpg is still poor. Could be down to Milton Keynes though as there are far too many roundabouts which means constant gear changing and stopping and starting.

Best advice is to look ahead at the road, if the lights are red come off the gas - you dont use anything, and if you dont stop thats even less wasted fuel. I usually stick to this cos it saves brake pads and fuel and time in one go.

I have a 1.4 8v and got 450 miles to £30 peak speed 118 slipping a vectra

ecotek valves are meant to reduce MPG - nto sure how good they are - u'd have to talk to soem1 with experience with them - but for the valve and silencer its about £60-70

There's one grade of mobil 1 that they claim on the label increases mpg,
I dunno if it does though. They used to have a leaflet at the dealer parts
counter that said that. It was pretty steep price though when you can get
filter and oil and labour charge for 15 quid at national tyres.

Personally I found my mpg went up slightly
when I switch over to optimax every few months for a few weeks, it
gains about 2-3 mpg not much can't say it's worth the extra money.
I do it because it's supposed to clean the engine it certainly seems
to run a bit better on it (better than the crap they sell at asda anyway)

It did blow slightly but i sorted that with a bit of exhaust tape. Now its purring silently again.

Might use some optimax for a while to see what effect it has.
