Hi people.

A friend of mine has an 1995 Corsa GSI, wich is an import (in brasil), as some of you might know...

I've always tought that all GSIs were C16XE, but recently we discovered that my friend"s engine is a X16XE... That discovery made him sad...

Well, I don't know how sad should he be, because his engine, with high mileage and completely stock, with exception of the K&N filter, new chip and bigger diameter exhaust pumped out 102 WHP...

I,ve been asking about this numbers here before (that time I was thinking that he hada C16XE), and people told me that this is normal for the C16. And I always read that the X16 is a weaker engine...

Could someone please enlighten me about this matters?

What is exactly the diference between them? Or the differences...

Shouldn't all GSIs be C16s?

I'm a little lost...

Thanks!

Speed wise hardly any difference, comes down to driver.

C16XE is easier to tune.

Well... This pipe is 2,5 in, because the first time I saw the horrible OEM plastic (piece of trash) pipe, I just couldn't stand it. So I made this from pre-bended steel curves. At the time I made the conections with rubber hoses, but nowadays I use to expand the tubes and weld them together.

We also enlarged the throttle valve diameter a little bit and got rid of the std airbox and filter. We replaced it with a big cone type K&N and a custom fabricated airbox. That is a fiberglass piece with an air duct that leads to the front of the car. (you can see it in the bumper)

Well, the reason that all this was made, is because I've been reading that with ONLY a better induction system, this engines can reach over 150bhp. The fact that all this parts were used in the 1.0 four cylinder made me think that they would probably not be ideal to an engine capable of almost 3 times the 1.0 power...

At the time, I did not realise that the main problem was the intake manifold. So the results didn't come and the powerband was unchanged. All the power we have gained came from the little extra torque. No rev gains.

BUT, now we are fabricating something very similar to the Mantzel's "Powerbox", so we hope that we can finally make use of all that mods we have done to the car...

Any questions, please ask.

That explains everything... This one is 1995...

But what are the differences between them? Head? Camshafts? Internals? Bore x stroke? Management?

Why people keep saying that they are less responsive to tuning?

The C16XE will tune up easier because it has slightly better head design with larger valves on the exhaust side, plus no EGR system to sap power, if ya mod a C16XE its gains will always be more than on the X16XE

X16XE (later GSi's 95-96) does 0-60 in 9.5 and 119mph
C16XE (early GSi's 93-94) does 0-60 in 8.9 and 121mph.

Well... The EGR is long gone... The head design can be "upgraded", since it isn't a completely different head... Even the valves can be changed... Thats was all part of the plan anyway... Except the bigger exhaust valves...
