Just to top a bad week off....
I get a letter this morning for CIS my insurance company stateing that dues to putting the modifications on my car they have increased the group rating from group 3 to group 5 as it presents a increased thieft risk.
This will cost and extra £83.78 a year.
Got straight on the phone to CIS and spoke to the woman, telling her that when i took the policy out i was told that mods did not increase your premium, and she said sorry sir but thats not the case they do!!!
I said well if i was told that in the first place i wouldnt have gone with you.... coz i would have been able to get it cheaper elsewhere.
They now have to contact the rep that told me and see what he says - get both sides of the story........ Will ring me back next week.
I said right well im not paying the extra money, as was told that i wouldnt have to pay any extra and that if next week when they ring, if they say i will have to i will just cancel the policy and expect to still be given a % of NCB to take to my next insurer or i have wasted 8months of insurance for nothing...

I doubt they will phone you back mate, or give you a % of your NCB. I would just pay the £83.73 and have done with it, i pay more than this a month until July

Well i have been with them since october so thats 7months.
This premium increase wont take effect untill june so... i would have to pay it for 5months if i wanted to get my years NCB and then change then....
Coz theres no point in wasting 6month with them and coming out with nothing

If they dont ring back i will ring them - im not paying the money unless i really have to coz the point is they told me i wouldnt have to.....
If its the case that they cant do anything and i will have to pay it i will pay up untill i have been with them a year so i have my 1years NCB then change insurer....

Here some things from the letter.....
the line reads exactly like this....
'It is necessary to increase the group rating from a group 3 to a modified group 5. The reason for this is that the vehicle will now represent a increase risk.'
They also said they wont offer discount on me having a CAT 1 alarm system fitted WTF is that about??
'I regret to inform you that the Society does not offer a discount for the instalation of alarms/immobilisers.'

"the ca only increase your premium come renewal time"
This is bullsh*t...say for example half way through a year u have an engine transplant from 1 litre to Valver...you think they cannot up the premium for the remainder 6 months...think about it...more risk more performance etc..

they record all their phone calls so ask them to check back to the phone call in which you were told that it would not increase
insuance companys are weird i went from a group 15 car to a group 2 car and they made the policy £12 cheaper for the year

if you can prove it then i would maybe try and make a claim and stop the increase
however for the amount of mods you have had done i think that 90 quid extra is quite good really
many companies would charge more.
and cancelling the policy is more hassle than its worth really, lus may end up costing you more thus cutting of your nose to spite your face.
they are have got a pint tho, such a lush car is more of a security risk
oh and about the cat one alarms had many arguements with insurance companies about them, i paid over 100 quid more for mine than my sister (seemed same spec toads but mine was cat 1) and no insurance company would knock money off, sems main use for them is as an essentail if they are to insure you on a high insurance group car.

i feel you misunderstand what wrote..
obviously change ya car, policy costs more, BUT if you have declared your mods when you start the policy and insurance says yes sir that'll cost you X amount, you pay that, they cant 6 months down the line suddenly decide they actually want more than that..

if the mods were delcared when you took the policy out you can tell them to GTF. it's there fault. you were quoted a price for your insurance with mods therefore they have to legally accept that. if however you added mods after your policy then they can charge you
