That doesnt sound too good, my XE had rattly tappets when it was first started after 8 months. After a quick run all was good, quiet as a mouse.

mines rattling

when it did it before a flush and oil change cleared it so might try an oil change again

how much for a set of lifters?
mine only sems to do it when i lift off the accel and only for a few seconds

mine quieten down after each oil change but getting them replaced soon as you can buy aset fromauto vaux or such likes for a lot cheaper than main dealer prices plus most people either replace them with LET ones (solid) or the 2.5v6 ones so i hear
