My GF is looking at selling her current car and buying a cheaper older but faster car, She has decided on 106 GTi.

Can people tell me what to look out for could i get a 1998 reg one for about £3800 / £4000 ??

What are the stats, 0-60 insurance group?

When did they come with leather Seats, She would like a Bright Yellow one as well, did they do yellow in this year.

Any advice / help much appreciated

look out for the usual stuff, erratic idle is pretty common, isnt serious really (mine did it + every other one I know) if It cuts out could be a faulty ecu though so be careful. Airbag light on could mean loose connection under the seat (again fairly common) not really anyother faults off the top of my head, just check it for dents etc (only tin can remember) check rocker cover, they can leak oil and if it hasn't been locked after it could be caked in shit!

Mine has this idling problem too, think it is very common(nothing major though) also as stated above mine had the airbag light up, again nothing serious.
Err mine has cloth, although it was the colour i really wanted (diablo red) it doesnt have leather which i now wish i had.
I think it was after 98 they all came wiv leather.
Be careful of the gearboxes, they are prone to going wrong(think mine has a prob, rumbles a bit) so make sure you take any you look at for a test drive(i didnt, stupidly cos i trusted the garage, very wary of buyin from garages now ) when on test drive listen for engine/gearbox noise.

If i were you i would get one with full service history, and below 50k on the clock, i payed 4300 for mine 52k fpsh.

You should easily be able to find one for around 4k, i know where there is a gorgeous one in that yellow colour for sale but is a tad outta ur price range at about 7200ish!!
Try peugeot-gti.net look in the for sale section there is often gtis for sale in here.
Hope the above is of some use!!

Late 98 onwards have leather. I think you could get one for 3.8-4k no problems, but for a decent example with FSH, leather and good bodywork you are looking at 4.5-5k.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me!
