Ecotec engine :'( WHY??!!

Lovely Mini though, and wicked idea putting GSXR throttle bodies on - just hope you can get enough fuel in to feed the extra 1000cc

Why?
Its newer than the redtop
Will ahve a lot less miles than a redtop
Lighter than a redtop
Nearly as much torque
Better on emissions
Can still see over 230bhp from them
Works VERY well with superchargers
Works well with different ideas such as the above

Ok, so it's newer but the old redtops aren't notoriously unreliable are they? You're probably only talking 2kg's max in terms of weight difference.

If you're interested in making proper power (and he clearly is because he's ditched the standard inlet manifold) then you're always going to be fighting against the restrictive ecotec head design - and who cares about emissions?

Nahh, the redtops are fantastic engines. Only ahd minor general engine faults happen with mine with what u'd expect with the mileage. This isn't to say the Ecotec lump still isn't good anyway. Restrictive ecotec head design wont come into play when you fit TB. Its direct into the head.

Get throttle bodies onto any Vauxhall engine and watch the power gains. Usually better than most other manufactures simply because they restrict it so much.

2kg? Nahh, the engines look a alot difference in terms of size, but i admit i dont know how much the X20 lumps weigh.

Oh, emissions, well, if you want a car thats going to get through the new MOT laws easier and u use it a lot, then it may concern you. Most XE corsa owners need to think about emissions/cat installation when fitting the engines as its a pain in the arse having to put the cat back in every year. Fortunatly, i dont have this problem

OJC being his typical childish self i see. Nothing changes Still come on here every day all day do you??

Agreed Daimo, fair play mate. What car(s) have you run the redtop in then?

I've had two now (about to pick up a third this weekend) hence why I boggled at why anyone would choose a 20bhp deficit over such a solid and highly available unit as the redtop.

I've just had the redtop in my corsa. But i've driven them in Astra's, calibras etc.

14bhp actually X20 is 136bhp, redtop is 150. Only the 20XE came with 155 standard and thats just because of the CAT not being there.

Oh i agree, as i say, redtop is superb, i can't fault them really. Considered to be one of the pedigrees of 2.0 16v (still to fnid another 2.0 16v as good really). But the newer engines do have their advantages.

We had a ecotec 2.0 16v turn up to a RR day i sorted years ago. Filter and zorst and made 143bhp (rollers are very good also). He said it was really quick still and didn't really loose out much to 20XE's.

I suppose its down to the owner, newer engine, could have got it for dead cheap etc. Until the full facts are known, you can't really give a genuine reason.

OJC, no, it was a question, why get so defensive??

Emissions? Daimo, that Mini's so old the owner probably doesn't even pay tax! He's not gonna give a rat's a$$ about how much CO's coming out the exhaust.
