The car cost 500 quid with 30k miles on the clock.
The bits to upgrade it to factory top of the range spec were fairly easy to get hold of from scrappies and very cheap at that.
A complete interior cost him 70 quid from a guy he met at a show. He went and visited the guy a week later and collected an electric sunroof conversion, coloured wing mirrors, dashboard mat, twin horn, central locking, calipers and vented discs for a further 20 quid.
His turbo doner car for a new engine cost him 300 quid, some of which he made back by selling other bits of the car. He stripped the car himself and fitted the engine himself.
A dicky clutch meant that he couldn't get a proper figure but the rolling road operater reckoned on 170bhp at the fly if one had been available.
This, my friends, is what it's all about. Read the full story here:

Agree'd he has done well for minimal expense, and it does look good.
But like Joff I got to this line and remembered it was still a Maestro: "My Nan had originally bought the car..."

You can mock him all you want, but the guys nobodies fool.
170 BHP for around a grand is hardly anything to laugh at. Maybe it isnt the most desirable car, but then a lot of people say the same things about Corsas. One mans waste is another mans treasure (or something to that effect!)
Any car can be good, its just having the imagination and the bollocks to give it a go.

A little bit more work, and it'll be comparable to Andy Nicholls' Maestro, that he used to drag-race:

TOTB2 Result:
Andy Nicholls, MG Maestro
