I'm selling something on Ebay now, and i've got a guy who wants to close now for a set price, not a problem.

But he wants to pay by bank transfer. By giving my bank account number and sort code, is there anything he could do fraud wise??

Just being cautious

Cheers guys

I have, but hes saying his PayPal account isn't working at the mo but could send a cheque.

He could be completely genuine, he just seems a bit too keen to want to pay by bank transfer thats all.

I always pay by bank transfer. Far less messing than a cheque. The only thing you must watch as a seller is that the money can occasionally disappear again if the buyer claims he's transferred it in error. I know this wouldn't work at Barclays as they ask you but some other banks may not within a certain timeframe.

I'd let the auction run though. You've no come back with eBay if you close early, plus you might take less now that it will end at. Let it run and see where you are then.

people usually save the bids till the last few hours anyway,so they dont keep making the price higher in the early stage of bidding

Cheers guys, i've asked him for a cashiers cheque saying i can't find my bank details.

Hes offered me a fair amount which i'd doubt i'd achieve in the auction.

Anyway i'll see if he agrees or not.

Cheers

Was trying to avoid the ebay fees which would be around £20 and the £10 for PayPal, so £250 cash sounded ok.

If he'd paid by PayPal i wouldn't have had a problem, but asking for my bank details is a bit dodgy.

I went into my bank (never seen the bird at the till before in my life) and told her i had forgot my card and asked to draw money out and gave her my bank number. The only ID she asked for was my address, no address ID shown. Therefore -- they get your address from eBay and you give them your bank details then bingo, they are rich! I WOULDN'T EVER DO IT AFTER THAT !!!

I'd be complaining rather than paying more for something which should be present anyway.
