Go to the DVLA office and just explain it to them.

They then make you fill in a form (or two) and i think its £80 and they put the old plate back on.

I got told can take anything from 4-5 working days, think it was done in 2.

Hope that helps mate.

better if you have another car to put the plate onto - only pay £80 once - This is what im doing.

Otherwise you get 2 pay £80 twice - £160

Wonder if you could leave it until you sell your car, be 100% sure of the one your gonna buy, then just get it transfered across - I think I would try that, Fuck paying £160 to the DVLA

No no no!

You pay the £80 fee once

If you're putting it straight on another car then thats all you pay.

If you're not, you need it on retention, which costs a further £25 per year.

thanks Ian.

Will pay the £80 to take it off then
and the £25 to put it on retention.

Then put on another car at a later time. So at a later time you DO NOT pay the £80 again..say 6 months down the road...

Correct. Assuming the retention is still valid and the nominee details match that of the keepers on the car there is no charge.

i havnt read all of this thread but you have to pay 80quid + 25quid to take it off a car and leave it on retention or if u r swapping it straight over onto another car its just the 80quid.

ive done it 2wice now within a year
