The transfer box problem isn't really as big as everyone makes out, most people just latch on to it as a reason to slag them off.

Uneven tyre wear seems to be one of the main things that kill them, there will be some good info about it on MIG.

vaux 4x4 prone to killing transfer boxes - Every cars prone to something, buying a used cars a gamble isnt it + its fast & cheep. Extra money will pay for new transfer boxes and getting me out mummy and daddies house

Ive read up about them and if looked after and tyres swapped round every so often it dosnt seem to be much bother.

i agree, u tend to find they have problems when abused, i could name a list of faults with every car that people use as a scapegoat
