My bro has a 98 GTi-6, induction, full stainless magnex, + chipped, and its pushing well over 180bhp.......and 106 GTi's dont stand a chance against it. Even as standard, they were only near him till bout 30-40, when the torque in second just blew em away. It really throws ya back in ur seat like nothing i'd seen before.
The only problem with them is very loooooong gear ratios (dispite the 6 speed box, which is shabby anyway). First gear see's 39mph easy, 2nd see's over the 60 mark and 3rd gets ya 88 on the limiter. In its tuned state, 5th shows an indicated 145mph (closer to 130-135mph i would say, seein as he's on 17"s as well), but 6th does sod all......its merely a "cruising gear".
I speak only for the 2 GTi-6's i've been in, and know about round here, but both have had APPAULING reliability. My brother is on his 3rd gear box since may, loadsa engine trouble + steering probs, amongst other things.
However, when it is running, the half leather, air con + climate control, auto lights/wipers, cruise control, 12disc changer etc are nice toys to play with

Nope not said that mate....not a clue wot kinda 1/4 they run really......But they are faster than 106 GTi's........when both in standard form.

yeah very.....my bro is goin to the RWYB @ Santa pod on the 25th, where the PGAC are staging a 106 GTi Vs 206 GTi Vs 306 GTi bash, which will be interesting.
The only RR my bro's pug had, was at power engineering after the chip was fitted, and set up, which showed 191.5bhp, but he was adamant whether that was totally correct.....

yeah, its a good motor......when it runs. Every single damn time i've been out in it, its had probs. It only had 38k on the clock, with fPsh from previous doctor owner as well!! Our mate's one has been playing up big time as well. Its been in garage since beginning of December! lol
Packed full of goodies tho, and the phase 2's looks lovely in cheery Red or black, with the crystal lamp units up front. Like the 106, the response from the induction and full system was amazing, altho the K+N makes it louder than my TD! lol

My mate also has a 306GTi-6 and he has had no end of problems with it, but when they are good they are certainly very quick!

106 GTi and 306 GTi are quite close on performance except the 106 handles better
