I assume you have taken out all the screws and released the clip at the top?
If so, can you get the housing out far enough to get your fingers behind the speedo part?

if its the speedo cable, open the bonnet and look for a cable going vertically down into the gear box. You should be able to unscrew it enough to loosen the cable, giving you more slack on the clocks. Then if you can get your hand in behind the clocks, you can then unclip the cable from its mounting (on the back of the clocks) and then it will be free. Bastard to get back in, and you will probably cut yourself a bit on the clocks.

If you have enough slack to get your hand/fingers behind the dials and can feel the cable, try and follow the cable to the back of the speedo. You will feel a stub coming out the back of the speedo, the cable connects to this stub and is held in with a spring type clip.
If you can feel the clip, push it toward the speedo and pull the cable, this should release it.
Having said that, if its tight it will be a pig of a job and you would be best to release it the gearbox end.

ive pressed the clip as i can feel it, but as you said it doesnt just "pop" out. So, would pulling the clocks out whilst pressing the clip damage the wire, or wil i need to release the gear box end?

gear box end is pretty easy to get to, and just screws on and off, so you may as well do it to make life a bit easier. Its not a difficult job to change the dials etc, but its so damn fiddly!! Good luck with it mate.

Gearbox is kind of behind the engine. You will know what it is when you see it. The cable you want is on top the 'box, although, without looking, I don't know if you can get at it through the engine bay or from underneath the car. The cable you want has a large round serrated nut on the end, looks a bit like a small bottle cap. You will probably be able to undo this by hand.
Off topic, postmans just been, so something will be in the post to you tonight

i think the location changes depending on the engine. Mine is towards the middle/back of the engine compartment, and to the middle/right accross.

Didn't I send you info on how to remove the perspex?
Pull the cable into the car a bit, fit it back to the clocks then pull from grearbox end to take up the slack.

Then you should just have enough slack to re position the clock housing and fiddle about trying to get the connector back in. Make sure it is fully in before re fitting all the trim, take the car for a short run to make sure the speedo is working.

Just wait until you try fitting the heater leds....you'll be tearing your hair out

Should be 4 retaining clips. 2 top / 2 bottom holding on tnhe cover. CAREFULLY prise them up and gently pull away. Break it and Vauxhall want £28 for a new one.

Why do you wanna take the perspex off the black glue? Just unclip it and the whole cover and black rear surround (where the illumination things (lights / hazards / oil sillouettes are) will come off to leaving you with the bare clocks.

yes, but i want to put my alloy dial surround on mate, which will require sticking to the current black 1, which in turn lies behind the perspex.
