Argos swap trick

Buy new one from argos, pop old one back in box, money back, voila.

Used to do this with machines where chipping went wrong

Nar if any PS2 is over a year old and you get problems like this its almost certainly one of the white spinners in the tray or the laser strength is too low, i see em all the time.

You can try cleaning them, if that fails, adjust the internals and the laser pot (carefully), if that fails, new laser.

mine was one of the launch consoles and its still going till this day with zero laser problems, and its chipped.

All depends on usage and conditions.

First chips were pants for the PS2. Messiah 1 was the best in the running out of magic 3, apple ect. Then from V7 onwards Messiah 2 was winning again, then the DMS3 came out, but there was lots of problems with timing ect.

Now the best chip out IMO is the F14, only 14 wires and is extremly stable.
