i agree with Paul - perceptions of races can be very very biased. Ie: most people will blat past another motor (like 20mph faster), and unless that car can get back past within 100m, then (a 1.2 owner) will come on here and say how they had a close race with scooby, but was beaten past 70 (the point at which the scooby anhialated em.

I only count fair races as from the lights up to around 80mph, or from level onwards. Thus why i've not had many, coz it rarely happens

not sure I understand he raced an R5GTT that fluffed his start which is why it took a while for it to come back at him.

sorry argue all u like r5's are very nippy but not extremely fast only car to put me back in my seat so far is gt40/scooby nothin else has come close

when u think about it my corsa has 9 bhp less roughly i no theres alot of torque but 9BHP thats not even that much bet if i gave most 9bhp on there cars extra why they were at work an not told them they would not even notice it

If you see my above post your see I half agree A WELL maintained/tuned R5 will eat you but theres a lot more shitters out there than well looked after examples. I had a banger in my garage for a time and it was pretty slow so I believe you - I just like a bit of banter which (some) people can't seem to take

No one here is sayin a R5 is extremely fast, but they are quick. Wot i think ppl are sayin is, corsa sports have "below average" performance for wot they are, and so in theory, should not be keepin up with a tuned r5

Matt

PS: it makes sense tho

Mate of mine bought an R5 - numerous problems and ran like a dog. Getting them to work as they should requires a lot of maintenance - most examples are running below par. However, as they weigh somewhat less than a bicuit tin, even below average examples will generally show a standard corsa sport a clean pair of heels.

I have beat things that are supposed to be quicker than the Vec. I was in my mates V6 Vec and we raced a Civic Type R and totally nailed it... Partly due to the driver of the Civic being 19 and unexperienced at racing....Its not always booktimes...

He said the Corsa was modded lets say it was doing 0-60 in around 9 secs.... now the R5 may be old and unserviced and running 0-60 in 8 secs....then that story makes good sence to me

Why does everyone automatically assume that if anyone ever posts about the race they just had, they must of simply dreamt it.

There are loads of variables to take into count, things like who was in the power, who was carrying the momentum, whether it took a sec for the R5 driver to realise he was racing, whether the R5 was in the wrong gear at first... etc etc...

If someone posts a race they had - then leave it.

Thing is, street racing is nothing like racing on a 1/4 mile.

On a quarter mile, both parties know they're racing, both people will start racing at the same point, etc...

Street racing is much different, its usually only when one car has flown past another or 1 car, starts pulling away fast - that you realise they're up for a race.

thus its never a case of both cars going 0-60 in a straight line, race, as one car usually already has momentum.

i.e. I could be flying along a dual carriageway, doing say 65 mph and accelerating, fly past a Saxo VTR, and then have him floor it, and be catching but not by much coz we're both accelerating and I'm already going faster, then go round a roundabout and another stretch of dual carriage way and it end up being very close.

But when you look at the facts, a Saxo VTR will slaughter a 1.2 Sxi and if it was a agreed race, i.e. 'after 3 go' ... both start at the same time sort of race (i.e. 1/4 mile drag race) - then the VTR would nail me.

This is how people can write about cars they've beat / got beaten by, but not by much and the cars be obviously faster.

You see?

venom turbo cheez m8 exactly my point

this turbo is tidy nice lookin may not be runnin right

we both nailed it up to 65-70 mph mine will do it in 9-9.5 secs r5 will do it in 7.5-8 secs so really why u all laughing up to 60 theres 1 1/2 secs approx thats about 2 maybe 3 car lengths so stop laughing at me when u think about it it makes sense regardless of whether it was running right or not

only upto 65-70 did he then have the power to overtake and piss off

so instead of judging actualling think about it
