then why didnt he state that? Nice spec BTW, is your RAM two modules of 512 or just 1 of 1gb? Also that hard drive is what i have, make sure it is definately formatted in NTFS, mine is FAT32 and have been having big problems because of it.

yes the memory is 2x 512mb modules which are sold as a matched pair.
The voucher is pretty crap really, you can either download the game from the internet when its out,
or you can send it away to the usa and they will send you a boxed copy when it comes out, (however u have to wait 4-8 weeks)
Case is a Lian Li PC 70 which has been modded a bit,
ill show u some pics in a min,
and yes when i installed XP Pro i formatted using NTFS so

what heatsink and fan are you using? Is it noisy, and are you using a thermal plate between the heatsink and the processor?

i bought the chip as a retail bundle,
thus got the amd heatsink and fan supplyed witht he package.
the fan is quite nosiey however i will be soon changing it for a papst fan.
the headsink comes suppled with pre aplied thermal paste,
however i took that off and im using Artic Silver 3

are you going to get the 64bit version? I expect you are really trailing performance wise when it comes to running the OS behind graphic/processor dependant apps. Make sure you're heatsink is bolted on good and tight, heard some nightmare cases of the chips getting so hot, so fast that they catch on fire within 10secs of fan/heatsink failure.

good choice. IMO, bin the standard heatsink and fan, aint worth shit. Look at Thermaltake's Volcano 9. Tested up to and beyond 3200XP speeds. The thing is bloody huge, 6k rpm and pretty quiet running. Keeps my PC ambient to around 32-35 degrees and processor at about 40degrees. Nice and cool. Those are temps at full processor use.

the new Athlon 64 chip run a hell of alot cooler then its old brother the XP's
also with the new chips has come a new socket and thus a new way to hold and clip the heatsink in place.
It makes installing alot easier and you dont need dodgy screwdriver methode to clip the heatsink on the motherboard.
my current pc runs at 29 and tops a 32 under max load.
Performance wise it eats everything on the market in its class (3.2 P4)
however it is trailing behind then P4 3.2 EE and also the Athlon 64 FX which are just stupid amounts of money

see my post above,
the heatsink connector to the motherboard is different.
thus cannot use socket A heatsinks.
I am tempted to water cool the beast. however cooling wise it might not bring the temps down much. However it would eb alot quitier!

aaaah i see, i was not aware of the different connectors however, athlon chips do run mega hot without proper cooling. Dont skimp on it

my old chip was the 1800+ and did run at 40s on idle,
i spent a good 40 on a Alpha PAL8045, yet still was extremly hot.
I have bee extremly pleased with my 3200+ 64, and you can also buy a 3000+ 64 chip now which is very reasonable!

At the moment I looking at builging a new Computer in january - but im looking at the Athlon FX-51 chip, however I have been reading that the Athlon FX-53 chip will be out sometime after April, so might have to wait as the FX-51 will be alot cheaper then.
