I did the same thing, not out of stupidity as such, the little red bulb in the instrument panel had blown.

your engine will be fine, if you constantly are in the red

and before you get the usual people spouting about pickin up all the crap at the bottom of the tank, your tank & filler neck is plastic

u only get crud in it, if it rusts (plastic dont rust does it!), plus you have a fuel filter

your still a dick head for runnin out of petrol though!

hehe, my parents some time's pay for my petrol - so I usually run it dry and then wait for them to offer and get a full free tank of fuel...

I made the mistake of waiting and waiting and waiting until I finally decided 'shit I need petrol' - the needle was below the red bar! and so off I went to fill up, Got half way between my house + the petrol station and it started cutting out...

Coasted it down a hill for a while and then went back up a slight slope the other side now with the petrol station in sight about 400 yards away... but it completely stopped - I had to jump out and push it into the petrol station and fill it up - lol was getting tooted and stuff by people driving past.

Now I always watch my fuel gage - though I still risk it sometimes.

I have run out twice.

One I was at my mates house, forgot I needed petrol, came out too late and petrol station was closed, drove it hopme got just past my house (on a hill) and it cut out, had been spluttering up the hill, so I rolled it onto the drive (didnt have to get out), in the morning I started it up and it ran fine down to the bottom of the road to the nearest petrol station.

The other time, same kinda thing, on my way to get some petrol and cut out in town sat in unexpected traffic for ages. Gave mate a ring and he brought some over for me, sorted.
