hey guys.
Just a quick one, but i can guess the kind of answer ill get already.
The mrs broke her Iphone 5 screen at the weekend.
we popped into the apple store today to see what they could do (as its only 32days old) they said if we came in Saturday
we could have opened applecare+ and got a replacement handset for £45 (+ the £65 applecare fee)
Now being 1 day later the price has rocketed to £219 for a replacement handset.
The "geek" we were talking to said - if something else was broken eg. headphone jack, sleep button. its covered by the 1 year warrenty... free replacement. 'wink wink'
How can i intentionally break something - which cannot be directly effected by the screen damage?
I did think of SSHing the firmware and deleting parts to brick it,
or 1second bursts in the microwave until the battery shits itself.
possibly hammering a nail through the headphone jack?
any advice appreciated.

If it was that easy everyone would be doing it the day before their year warranty runs out.
I dont think damaging the jack would help your case either, especially if you get another geek who is the complete opposite.

Why not break all your electronics every 11 months and claim new ones through insurance or warranty? Will never have to buy anything again!
Or you could intentionally have someone drive up the back of your car to claim whiplash.
Then afterwards you can lie about the severity of the injury and just claim benefits in stead of working.
So many wonderful ways to take advantage of the world we live in, without actually contributing in any way.

wow. What a squeeky clean forum this is.
As i said earlier - I could have guessed the kind of reply i would get.
Irrespective of the morality of it, ill try "bricking it" before we take it in.
As we will need to purchase a new "warrenty replacement" handset if they dont accept a software fault anyway.
*tbh the thought wouldnt have even crossed my mind if the "geek" hadnt implied the idea.

You'd need the breakage to be an actual warranty claim would you not? ie. actual failure of the quality of the part? Not hammering a nail in there, it would need to fall apart of its own accord.
I would think said geek is doesn't really know how generous the warranty terms are as is either deliberate making it up to get you out the shop, or accidentally talking shit because they genuinely think you have a good chance of getting a new phone for cheap when in fact its a whole lot more difficult.
Or get insurance which covers being a bird and damaging things.

This is easy..
1) Go to the pound-shop.
2) Purchase £1 USB charger cable.
3) Cut USB connector off charger cable.
4) Strip back about 15cm of cable to reveal the four wires.
5) Strip the ends of the individual wires.
6) Pick two at random and touch them on your cars battery terminals.
You now have an irrepairable iphone ready to be replaced  .

....You can also do the same thing with the head-phone jack just use pound land head-phones and follow the same instructions.
