Im after a cheap, high MPG, reliable bullet proof car. Must be 5door diesel too.

After looking around seems that a peugeot 306 ticks all the boxes. Unless anyone as any other suggestions?

Off to look at a 2.0 HDI turbo diesel tonight, are the turbo models the best to go for? or should i be looking at a non turbo or 1.9 model?

Cambelt driven?, and what to basically look out for when viewing?

The Renault dci's are suppose to be good on fuel. Not sure about the reliability of them though.

The Clio 1.5 dci on paper can do 65mpg. They're dog slow though.

Got a clio dci myself and ive had no issues with it at all. Do 80 miles a day minimum and its saved me a fortune. The average mpg on the trip computer is 70.9.

ive had a 306 1.9 d-turbo and ive had a 5door 2.0hdi both of them are sound cars if you get the d-turbo you can turn up the diesel pump pretty easy bring more power however the 2.0hdi is a very nice car if i was to choose i would say 2.0hdi mate

Had a 1.9 dturbo that was brilliant. Quite nippy and easily tuneable. Cambelt due every 36k iirc. Done mine, and water pump, aux belt and tensioners, and glow plugs. That's all that needed doing in the 18 months I had it. Good mpg too. Normally around 55 on steady journeys.

I had the more agricultural DTurbo on an M plate. Managed 620miles to a tank (mostly motorway miles) sounded horrible but was a very reliable car. Power steering pump was the only fault in the time I owned it.

I owned 2

One returned 55mpg and nothing went wrong in 14 months

the other one was a lump of dog shit that would manage 30mpg at very best.

Hit and miss I guess
