But you should have known that it would be likely for the mud to be there when it's wet and had farm vehicles driving past and consequently over the mud which flicks it onto the road.

farm vehichles are on the road very very rarely as much chance of being mud on the road there as oil on the road, very minimal chance.

dont get me wrong i would admit to it if i felt i could have done something about it or have avoided it, the fact i was driving very cautiously considering the road there was little to be done to avoid what happened combined with crap tyres and a very light rear end on a fiesta

graham, got to give them something to do on an otherwise boring monday night

I've been driving for 4.5 years and have never crashed and its not as if I drive slow at all, the only time I nearly crashed was when I spun the corsa on a left, adverse camber road in the pissing wet, but that is an arse of a corner as the side of the road was riddled with lots of tyre marks from other people
Just think if you crashed because of "diesel" on the road, why didn't everyone else?

My only proper crash to date was because of diesel. And it was icy at 2am on December 23rd, and I was inexperienced as it was within my first year of driving. And I had bad tyres. But for some reason I got banned for 18 months because of some stupid drinking technicality

couldnt agree with john more tbh

so what if a road is a 60mph road; just because you took the bend at less doesnt mean you were driving apropriatly

motorways are 70mph, do you do 70 on a foggy motorway at rush hour... No.

tbh you're missing the point the fact that you can drive the bend in the wet at 60mph and 90% of the time i would (and never crahsed before) suggests that 60mph would a be an appropriate speed for the conditions and the i was considerbaly slower than that and had i not im sure the police would have jumped at the chance to prosecute me.

As it happens on the way to work this morning there was a car in the field about 50 metres away from where i crahsed. was going to get out and put a note on the car saying 'unlucky john from corsasport says you're a bad driver' but decided since john wasnt there and doesnt know the facts then how could he possibly comment on whether the drivers ability was at fault

You are still missing the point, you crashed, you were driving too fast.

I wrote my car off doing 50% over the speed limit, in the wet, the police didn't prosecute me, that proves nothing.

If you were driving to the conditions you wouldn't have crashed.

I'm not presonally attacking your drving, I'm saying that poor driving caused the crash, which it did.

As for the original thread topic, I've had almost exactly the same car, with the discussed modification and know exactly how it changes the cars handling.

It's still poor driving if you know a certain modification causes a certain effect, then crash because of that effect.

conditions . . . diesel. sorry i must have been sleeping when it last rained diesel. im sorry but you can't class an accident from a diesel spill in the same category as wet roads or ice ridden roads. if the roads are wet all the roads in that area are wet, therefore how you drive should change to compensate for extra braking distances and lack of grip etc. If the road has ice on it chances are a few of the other roads in that area will have ice on them too therefore your way of driving on them roads would immediately change to compensate for those condition changes however you cannot be driving down a road and think 'oh wait a minute, chances are this road has a big dirty diesel spill on it, i better calm down'. fair enough if you are doing a higher speed when hitting the diesel spillage the consequences will be greater but you can't blame this on driver ability. If you can then surely you should become an MP and get all speed limits adjusted incase there is a diesel spillage on the roads at any point in the future? i think not

Get your tires checked Matt and if you can afford it, a proper, full, four wheel alignment check.
