I would say lowest spec 6 cylinder at least TBH, they are so refined its unreal, when mine is idling there isn't any slight vibration at all.

Fuel consumption is actually better in 6 cylinders as well sometimes.

Well i'm 21 2YNC and paying £600 FC on my 323i so you will be easily under a grand anyway, the best MPG for mine was 36MPG on a 120mile run, usually get around 26MPG but thats my driving style TBH.

I said i would only have a straight 6 one, but i bought a 318! Insurance is expensive. (im 19) and i could insure a MK4 astra gsi (2.0 turbo) for same price.
Fuel - i do high 20's on average. Alot that is town milage though with abit of a raggin from time to time. Im sure a straight 6 one wouldnt be any worse.
Good car though. Soild, handle suprisingly well if driven correctly, Miles better than any astra, focus, or anything of the sort.

don't those have the same engine just slightly de-tuned for the 318?

i had a 2000 318 ci in 2 door, was very slow, 4 cylinder and didnt go very well at all, however it was well built, comfy and was a pleasure to drive. Had 120k on it too and never missed a beat.
