my point exactly.

If that joint then leaks you'll be straight back there with your 2nd hand parts blaming them. They dont need the hassle.

I finf it very hard to find a garage (i dont know) that will fit parts that they have not supplied

Garages have their own supplier/s though Mark. Anything customer supplied is an unknown quantity and therefore not normally entertained.

This is not for the sake of being bloody minded or unhelpfull. There are good reasons for a garage to operate this kind of policy.

They invariably have enough on their plate trying to make a profit without wasting time messing around with what can almost certainly be a grief job. Especially in the event of a part requiring any sort of modification.

New parts come with a guarantee. Hence a job will normally have a 12 month guarantee on both parts and labour.

If a customer supplies a part, then there is no guarantee on the part. If the part fails in some respect after fitting and the failure is due to the part being rubbish or faulty or having an underlying manufacturing defect, then it would also be unreasonable for the garage to be expected to warrant their labour.

If a customer supplied part were to fail badly enough to cause an accident or even a fatal collision after being fitted in good faith by a garage, then guarantee or not, the onus is essentially on the garage because they worked on the car.

This will only lead to bad feeling, the garages reputation being ruined and a court case.

This is why it's a good idea to fit one's own bits when they are used and why most garages won't touch them with a barge pole.
