on my MK2 Golf project car the threads on the coilovers aint in best of health, im pretty sure you can soak the whole thing in something that doesnt effect the rubber parts of the shock, i think its vinegar but wanted to check before i did it.
Can anyone shed any light?

If they are going to be used on the road then yes, the threads need painting with copper grease. i use copper grease whenever i bolt stuff together again - dont know why its not used at the factory to stop stuff seizing.
