I've had a look in my archive and the lowest price for any new model Nova in the UK was the base trim, one litre, 2 door saloon. It would have been £3,652.00 at launch in April of 1983 on a 'Y' plate. It was insurance group 3.

The cheapest model available in 1992 was the late 'J' plate one litre 'Merit', 2 door hatchback. It sold for £6,580.00. It was insurance group 2-3.

The dearest production Nova sold in this country was the 1992 2 door 1.6i GSI model. On a 'J' or 'K' plate it would have cost you £11,187.00 and was group 11-12 insurance.

I'd love a nice mint 2 door Nova saloon or a GSI. On DCOEs too.

Christ! In just nine years Vauxhall's most basic car almost double in price. Greedy wankers.

They really were swindling fuckers. It turns out that the 1.5 turbo diesel Merit 2 door hatch went up from £7,629.00 for a 'G' plate to £8,860.00 for a 'J' plate.

More than twelve hundred quid increase on a car of that value in the space of little more than two years. That's bloody extortion!

It's not a space frame rear though either. The turrets are welded onto the body for starters.
