Toureg might be an idea if you could find an appropriately priced one Si.

They're not pretty and they sport that horrid badge but they are built like a truck underneath and are lovely to drive.

Horrid badge being VW? lol!

I'll have a look, thanks. Do you think they are comparable on motorway cruises to an A6?

Huge price range on Touraug's! Lowest priced one i could find was £4300, on a 54 plate.
That was a v6 petrol, i'd need a deisel. They probably have higher prices.

Do they have the silly £400 odd tax rates?

For such a tall and heavy motor they feel very planted when hustled around bends and such Si. I've not driven any on motorways though so don't know how they fair with side winds etc.

You do feel like the king of the road driving them. Especially the V10 diesel.

One can always pop the badge off too.

JUST TO UPDATE.
Ok i posted a similar thread on a bmw website and a response from an owner is as follows:

Ive got one Ive got a 2001 2.5 Met. green All Road.

Allroads are lovely cars but a nightmare if you buy the wrong car. They have air suspension which lasts about 70K before the air bags need replacing. Mine had to be done and at £400 a pop ( fronts ) are costly. You know when they need replacing when the front dips over night, and /or the air compressor is constantly working. You can buy them from the US for about half price ( which is what I did ). The air compressor can over heat too.

Automatic gearboxs. These have issues with the valves within them and you MUST do a diagnostic check done before you by any car. Many have torque converter issues where the pressure in the gearbox builds and blows the torque converter.

2.5 engines are better than the 2.7, although the 2.5 not half sounds like a van MPg 27/30 for a auto model.

I brought mine for about £4K, had to spend another £1.5K on air bags etc etc. Dont go for Audi's long life oil as its too thin ! Also, if it needs a cambelt change, the whole front must come off and is quite expensive. Cambelt and cambelt pullies / tensioner needs to be done at the same time.

Overall, good cars, quite thirsty, but great for kids / carrying stuff. Built like a tank, 4x4 is great, lots of power and can be tunning boxed to 200bhp. Thirsty, expensive it goes wrong.
