Having sold my Corsa, im on the hunt for another BMW, unfortunately not another M3 though

I have found a very nice one for very cheap! S Reg 1998, 90k FSH Mauve/Purple M-Tech etc. Basically the ideal one ive been looking for!

However, it has a overheating problem! Adverts write up:

BMW E36 323 COUPE

I AM SELLIND THIS CAR DUE TO HAVING OVERHEATING PROBLEMS, THE HEAD WAS REPLACED ALONG WITH NEW GASKET 4 MONTHS AGO EVER SINCE IT HAS RANDOMLY OVER-HEATED, SOME TIMES IT WOULD RUN FINE OTHERS I'D GET DOWN THE ROAD AND IT WOULD OVER-HEAT.

I'VE HAD A NEW THERMOSTAT AND WATER PUMP FITTED

GARAGE HAS TOLD ME ITS NOT DUE TO THE HEAD BUT I'VE LOST INTEREST IN IT

IT HAS 18" ALLOY WHEELS

WHITE LEATHER INTERIOR

BODYWORK IS VERY CLEAN

VIEWING IS WELCOME WEEKDAY EVENINGS OR WEEKENDS

It probably has the Nikasil Engine but i dont think this would cause overheating. Has anyone had or know, from previous experiences what the problem could be?

Nikasil Blocks were stopped in production in March 1998, this vehicle was registered in January 1998

Could be something stupid like air lock. Just bleed it and put rad flush through it and see what happens.

If its had a new head, gasket, thermostat and pump fitted, i cant see what elese it could be.

Yeah true, i might give them a ring, if they have proof of the work done i cant see it being anything serious.

Can't make the car look newer than it is so can't be a private plate either.

More than likely a Jan 99 car as you cant put a newer plate on an older car.

Unless its a ringer.

Oooooooooooo when i had my325i mate i had bad overheating probs

My block ended upcracking in the end after trying to find the problem for ages..flushed the rad..sorted the air locks..new gasket etc etc and it still didn't stop it.If there's a decent BMW specialist near you then give the guy a cheeky offer and keep the rest for any work that needs doing..oh and don't drive it

If its still available at the weekend i might go have a look!

i reckon the seller has just put that date as its the first date of the 1998.

Yeah if it has a cracked block it will lose water though wont it?

I think ill go check it, see if the coolant is actually circulating etc, its not far away to be fair either!

Ideally id like a 328 Sport but they go for a good amount still! yeah you can pick 328i saloons cloth interior etc (low spec) for well under a Grand but i want something that isnt 'low spec' lol

If the block is cracked slightly then it won't leak until it's very hot and expanded.By that time though it's too late anyway. If the body is tidy..offer him 1K as said then try and fix it.Might just be an air lock BUT i doubt it.Sounds like it's already been the first port of call

check the build date on the drivers side suspension turret.
Does it overheat when moving or at stand still? could just be a chuffed viscous fan as they seem to always go wrong.
