I kind of agree on the hassle to performance ratio, if I didn't have the turbos on mine I don't think I'd have stuck with it. But as for everything else you're saying, I think you're exaggerating.

Next RX8 REALLY needs forced induction.

But Stan, just enjoy it, you can prevent lots of problems with simple, regular checks and maintenance.

Exaggerating? Mate come on now. They DO use a lot of oil compared to any other car either in there class or otherwise, EVO said a litre every 1000 miles??! They use more fuel than the likes of Scoobys and EVO's which is pretty horrendous and the Tax is in the highest bracket AND the insurance is high on them.

I wish i was exaggerating but i don't think i need to..the proof is out there in plain view.

Mine didn't use a litre in a 1000 miles around Europe! And that's a higher stressed motor! The design of the engine means they are intended to use oil. Why does everyone dwell upon this as though it's a sign of weakness in the engine?

It's like saying diesels are better than petrol because you don't need spark plugs or something. The money you spend on oil is saved when you don't need to change cambelts maybe?

So unless they fucked something up with Renesis I can't see that being true. Yes they're thirsty if raped everywhere but consistently worse than Evos etc? I doubt it.

Again, mine will see 25mpg, and it's an older, less efficient design.

I'm not trying to get you to agree with me, but just let people see it from both sides Tax is high since they changed the bands or whatever.

No idea about insuring one so I'll take your word for it on that.

I suppose your right about the cambelt issue mate..didn't think of that one.

I'm only going off what EVO have said about there longtermer and what i picked up on working at a Mazda dealership.EVO stated that they got better MPG out of there 2.5L WRX Wagon they had and no matter how they drove the RX8 it still never returned more than 22MPG (i think without looking again) i think the average they got was 18!!

I can honestly say that if it did 0-60 in 5.5/6 seconds and had a nice broad power band and torque i'd have one on the drive now. Also the tax is a big bugbear for me too.The MPG i can live with i havn't had good MPG for the last 5 years

MPG is for wusses anyway

I'm interested to see how the 16X fares with emissions. Also like the idea of extra torque and hydrogen compatibility. Bet they still won't charge the bastard though

I think if someone goes from a piston engine with low down grunt to a revvy rotary, they don't adapt their driving style and it drinks just as much when labouring as revving hard. My dad always short shifts the 7 and it bugs the hell out of me as it's really not happy just ticking over.

Just been looking at an ad on PH's for an RX8 and it's a 53 plate. It says because it's the older model that the tax is only £215 a year instead of £400 That's a bit more tempting..£6750 though

Yeah because they changed it to emissions over capacity based taxation.

Don't get one, you'll only come complaining to me if it goes wrong.

Get a 7, most are still £120 tax a year

What did you do wrong?

I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

That's a new one for CN,

RX8s use shitloads of oil, fuel, cost more to tax and insure AND ruin relationships
