i noticed on ebay the daily deal was crash helmets with 68% off which makes them £14.99

http://deals.ebay.co.uk/

i'd be a bit suspect that a £15 helmet would save my life if it was called upon

Might be good enough.... but its doesnt meet any MSA regs etc etc (if you needed it to)

I dont no why you would scrimp on something that is there for safty, like puttin gin a role cage but not welding it to the car to save money. Spend the money on a good one and it will save your life !!

So how are they being sold as motorbike helmets if they don't have any markings? surely that should be more alarming

tbh I was a bit hesitant in posting this but I thought at least in a car it's probably safer than a bike and would make do for a future combe/trax type event

i didnt say it had no markings.... It will have the minium safety marking (BS kite, ISO whatever) for its intended purpose. BIKE.

But it will not be ok for certain events (i heard a rumouor about trackdays now requesting MSA standards.... doubt its true though.)

Bike helmets and car helmets are designed differently, and to withstand different things.

If you think about it, on a bike you are going to have 1 big impact, and in a car possibly several as your inside a metal box.

saying all that though..... wearing a cheap ass helmet from China will be better than no helmet.

But for £15 How the hell can they make it so cheap!

A helmet isn't something I'd be wanting to try and buy the cheapest thing possible.

Put it this way. You look like a spastic when you've smashed your head in and turned yourself into a spastic. A decent car helmet is going to cost you between £100 and £300 depending in if you go for closed or open. That's not a lot of cash when we're talking about motorsport.

Your looking at well over £300 for decent car helmet that meets 2010 MSA regs.

Think fee's was £350, and mine was about £380. They are both bottom of their range helmets. Hers is OMP, mine is Stillo.

OMP GrandPrix - http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=OMPSC728M

Still SP3 - http://www.demon-tweeks.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?cls=MSPORT&pcode=SLOAA0400AA1L

DaveP (luckyB) just got one from here for 2010 regs. These ARE good value - http://www.v2sport.com/v2sport.html

wish i'd seen them before

i wouldnt be too worried about spending £901283287 if your just doing a few trackdays .. if youre that bothered you would wear it to pop down the shops as your more likely to die on the road than on a trackday.

Ak - In the ideal world, yes people would spend nearly £400 for the best helmet. But alot of people dont earn that a week, where looking at your assets, you probably earn that a day. Also he will not go anywhere near as fast as you

Also the helmet thing (the more expensive, the better is is rule). Im not keen on it. Yes to a certain degree, it will be better for the more money you pay, but people in places must market shit helmets for alot of money, due to people saying this

i'm not saying go out and spend £400... only trying to make folk aware that a £15 bike helmet is not designed for being used in a car.... its VERY cheap..... and, and, and..... a lot of things...

The link I posted is for great VALUE FOR MONEY car helmets.

and as I said above.... That £15 helmet will hopefully be better than nothing.

I'm not sure why you feel the need to bring my income into it either. Is your head not worth more than £15?

TBF, Kurt was only pointing out that it might be suitable for someone who is only going to do a few Trax style track days so there owuld be no point in splashing out
