After all of 5 mins thought i decided I wasn't happy with the bike so I've sorn'd it and its now off the road for the winter. Stripping it to a bare frame and building it up from scratch with everything painted, powdercoated, new bolts, analy cleaned etc. Will be using track fairings on it with hidden lights aswell, so going to be busy.
This morning took it from this;

to this;

Engine will be out tonight and frame will be off to powdercoaters this week along with lots of brackets and bits.

Black frame and swing arm, white fairings and tank, lights hidden in the ram air scoops, daytime mot as it wont have mirrors or indicators, wheels powder coated white, strip as much weight from it as I can, stubby exhaust, wavey discs all round.
Been plain sailing stripping it so far.. engine is just hanging on the bolts ready to come out so should be quick progress after its out.

I'm past the point of no return with it now, the amount of bits that come off it is unreal. Good thing with it being on carbs is theres very little wiring on the engine side of things.
Might be ordering the fairings later today but not sure I can justify the money for them just now.

I am gonna have loads of wiring on mine Although should mean I don't have to do any setting up when putting it back together unlike when I did my old VFR with carbs, took ages to get it running right.

I should be fine as I'm able to drop the whole thing as one and I'm not dong anything to the engine so should be fine when it goes back in. All I've had to do is take the throttle cables off, fuel lines and a couple of plugs.
Just bit the bullet and ordered a full set of track fairings, built in catch tank etc..

So what are you doing? turning it into a track bike? If so i wouldnt bother getting the frame and swinger powdercoated else it will just be scratched to fuck when you go down - use rattle can matt black, much cheaper!

Well, no turnin back now... Mate came up earlier to help me drop the engine, remove swing arm and get the front end off. Will drop off the frame and all the other bits of to be powdercoated tommorow and start cleaning/paining everything.
Scary seeing it like this...

Lol its easy, just remember where bits went by putting the associated nuts and bolts in labelled tubs and you wont go far wrong. Its worse when you have a customers £25,000 race bike in bits like that!
While its apart id take your time to put in new headstock bearings, new fork seals, do the valve shims and suspension bushes too.
Love winter project bikes, think ill have to get one myself as its shit having nothing to tinker with!

New headstock and swingarm bearings will be done. Clearances were done 1k miles ago and fork seals will defo be done aswell. Not in any rush so going to try and string it out.
Want the frame and swingarm done so I can make it a rolling shell as quickly as possible then I'll take my time after that.

i wouldnt waste your time with lights in the ram air scoops if your going daytime only mot on it whats the point.
Saves a bit of hassle and you'll fail a daytime mot if you have any lights.

I want something purely so I can be seen. Found small led running lights that I could hide behind the grills on the scoops which might do the job.
Any idea where I can find the criteria for a daytime mot?

Criteria for a daylight only mot is as follows (i used to test them by the way):
The bike needs a constant sounding horn.
It needs a registration plate.
If it has any type of running lights, all the lights must be intact (so if you have a brake light or indicators you need the rest of them too so make sure there are no lights on the bike at all). Also if it has the switchgear for the lights still, but you have removed them you will have to tape the switches up.
Otherwise the rest of the mot is the same.
If your getting track fairing you wont have anywhere to mount legal headlights anyway so its best if you just leave them out.

Cheers. I'll leave it with no lights for the test but I'll be putting a tail/brake light on it. Seen a few on ebay that I will be able to mount with the number plate. Switch gear wont be an issue, will just tape it up for the test.
Do you know what the story is if I have a full MOT on it and then put track fairings on, does it revert back to a daytime only or will it basically be void? It will need mot'd before it goes bk on the road but I could take it in naked with all the lights on to get a full test done if that was easier.

Just run it on the existing mot, then when that one expires get a daylight only mot. Makes no difference really.
