What would cause the inner wall of a tyre to wear down to the belting? It's on a set of tyres which look perfectly fine, but the garage phoned to say the tyres are fucked and they wont test drive the car unless they're replaced. It's on an A4, all totally standard. In fact, the old mans A8 did exactly the same thing a while back.

Camber/tracking and underinflation. Sure you know the main causes mate.
Just buy BMWs instead.

That's not even adjustable on a car with standard suspension though? Could this mean there are even more problems with this fucking car

Sure it is, most modern cars will have full adjustment to a degree I'd have thought.

I'll go get the tracking checked after the tyres have been done. Think I'll go to the tyre shop though because Audi said it would be 4-5hrs at £50 an hour labour, they're not corner weighting a race car

I'd say tracking, to get enough camber to ruin the inside and leave the outside ok you would notice it, it would have to be quite a lot negative to do this...
i.e. my 350z ran 2.5 deg neg and the tires wear was fairly even.
Oh and your right ed, most cars std allow tracking adjustment, but only a tiny bit/no camber adjustment.

My punto eats the inside of tyres, the tracking is bang on, probably either me hooning it round roundabouts or it didnt have the rack change re call

thats not always true, my old mans old e36 328i had the same thing happen.
that was because it had the M supension and i dont think the camber was changed to suit, so you sounds like your camber mate.

pressures and are they dunlops.....??? had this on A4.
audi will charge alot more becasuse they do 4 wheel alignment andreset steering angle sensor which a "normal" tyre plced wouldn't.

My corsa was lowered but didnt get the tracking done...... new tyres needed replacing after 3 months. Outsides were atleast 6mm but insides were bald. Just get that sorted and youll be fine. I know its standard but maybe a worn part/accident that has caused it

One of my dad's passats done this from new, absolutely nothing wrong with tracking etc, just always done it.

A4 front arms are solid so know adjustment in them

At least the local tyre shop will be able to set the toe if it's wrong. They can't do camber...
Bloody annoying as there are quite a few miles left in the tyres. Plus it's nearly impossible to see the damage unless the car is on a ramp. Dangerous

This is normal on Alfa's 
Its how the camber is set from factory to improve handling

I think me and chris_uk have similar geo.
-0.3 to -0.5 degree camber on a vx front will see the inside wear bald when the outside isn't touched within 10k miles.
Saying that, we also probably run some toe out (about 0.2mm in my case)
