How hard is a headgasket to do and cambelt?
Im reasonably good at mechanical stuff (put an engine in GFs KA and did head gasket on that)
Only thing that bothers me is timing it back up when Ive put it all back together..

If you've already done a timing belt then it should be a piece of piss. They are one of the easier belts to do. Just make sure you paint the cams and crank sprocket so you cant go wrong. Also you could put a pair of molegrips lightly on the cam sprockets so they dont move.

Never done a timing belt before as KA dont have them, if I paint the so they match the head is that ok? because I am going to get the head skimmed.
Will also buy a haynes manual, suppose I can always get someone else to time it up if I feel out of my depth .

You don't need a tool to lock to pulleys. Paint the sprockets to the head and you will be fine.

theres a few pictures from when i did mine when the cambelt snapped....
in my opinion its a bit of a ball ache as the sport engines have lots of fiddly bits 
if you have friends, its easier if 100% with a someone to help aswell, like i had! just take you time and make sure you take pictures and are confident when putting things back together
a'd highly reccommend a haynes manuel as they have all the torque settings that you will need, and explain how to time the engine aswell

started it, managed to break the cam belt cover so need a new one of those, got the head off and belt etc, realised the waterpump is spinning pissed up so had to change that, gave up for today.
The way im going to time it up is put the piston 1 to TDC then get the cam pulleys so the markings face each other and run parallel to the top of the head.
Is that right, seems too simple?
Also how does the waterpump go on?

its a peice of piss mate iv only ever timed a xe and i know u line the markers on the pulleys up with the marking on the rocker cover . but with the sports im sure u have them fracing each other u know like wuarter turn each pulley . obviousley in diffrent directions so they are facing each other . keep all your slack to the bulk head side of the engine then just tension up all the slack job done!

I'm sure there should be a mark on the crank sprocket to time up the crank, but if not then piston no.1 at the top should be ok. Also did you mark the water pump before you took it off? If not there should be a mark on water pump and block. Like this:

I replaced the water pump so no marks, there isnt a mark on the casing either, Im confused with what to do with it now.
