Coming back from Shakespear Raceway on sunday just passed the M40 we heard a sudden 'clang' sound and the revs dropped rapidly. We had to drive another 300yards or so to a safe place and it stalled twice and was a pig to drive.

The AA picked us up (arriving at 1hr 29mins into the 90min time they promised us...) and carried us home. Dad stripped the engine today and found that a couple of bolts from the air intake had come off and into the engine

He reckons so far that it'll need two new heads (so both, as its a V8) and four new pistons (two from each side). Our main concern now is if the block is damaged as its a DART block from the USA and its made of aluminium and cost $2500 If that has happened its game over.

I'm so worried, this is my dad's pride and joy and he spent 7 years getting it like this. We had such a great day on sunday and now its tainted :'(

Just thought I'd share...

Might put a standard steel block in. Or could sell the other parts and buy a new engine and sacrifice power I have no idea what to do next.

$2500 for a block is hardly cheap.

Update: Its not as bad as we thought.

The block is fine, as is the crank. Dad brought a piston home and its beyond fucked so is the bolt it chewed. A full rebuild is still required but the damage is'nt as bad as it could have been

Heres the damage to one of Keith Black's finest:
