Afternoon all.

Im looking at a car ive found on ebay, we have come up with a best offer and he has accepted.

The car currently has a private plate on, which the owner wants to keep. He said he will go and transfer it off the car on tues, and i can pick it up tues afternoon.

If im right in thinking this cant happen as the v5 will be saying the private reg and not the one i will have displayed on the car i drive away in.

Am i right? What can be done so i can take the car on tues? Is it possible to buy with the priavte reg, and then transfer it back to him, once the change has been made?

Thanks

Dan

You can't do it in a day any more. The regional office will just take the paperwork from him in order to send it to Swansea.

If you want the car Tuesday, you really need to take it with the reg on.

Then it's up to you what you do with your reg.

Will cost £80 assignment fee and I think £25 change of nominee although you may get away with that if you put the assignment in the same name as the vehicle he wants to put it on.

There is also the possibility of a £25 retention fee although this is only if there's no "other" car.

If you're happy to wait, it is far less messing if he just does it. Puts him in a better position as well as if you bought the car you would be under no obligation to give him the reg back. So many people have lost regs this way.

As long as they don't take forever he should have the new keeper slip back the week after next and you can take the car with the original reg.

He then waits for the v5 to come back, fills it in and sends it off then you finally get the v5.

Just spoke to them, there prepared to take it off the market while i wait if i pay a 500 deposit, paypal would be safe wouldnt it? If i offer on ebay, they accept and then pay deposit via that ebay link, and state deposit based on car as is described on listing?

I wouldn't want to accept 500 over paypal, that will cost a fortune in fees.

I'd go round for a look at the car and hand over 500 if it's as described.

I would but its 150 miles away, and not being able to bring it back will mean 2 trips, and alot of time, which at the min im struggling for.

I said are you ok to accept paypal and she did agree.

Also, if i do a hpi check on the priavte plate thats still registered as on that car, is it ok?

Just tell them to give you a call when they've sorted out the plate.

Forget a deposit. Something else might come up.

They need to organise selling the car.

They were under impression of it being something was done instantly as they did it a while back.

I dont wanna let the car go, as its about 1500-2k less than anything else similar. Know that may seem dodgy, but ive hpi it, it is still under warranty. They are just having a baby and desperate to sell to get a bigger car.

I would be reducing my offer by 50 day for every day that passed rather than offering them money today for a car they can't sell you for two weeks.
