What cable do i need??

TV has a 15 pin (VGA?) same as laptop....

I connected a computer monitor cable as seemed same as was not having it

A computer monitor cable is exactly what you need.

Go into the display settings and enable the second monitor.

have you got a 'toggle monitor' key on your laptop?
ususally if you press that it toggles between laptop screen, ext screen, both etc..

Silly question but, are you trying it with the PC input selected on your TV

you prolly need to change the laptop to display outta the vga socket and not to the internal screen. on mine its fn + F4

i can do this but only get sound though the lappy and not tv,any ideas?

vga doesn't carry sound, need a cable from the headphone socket to either the tv or an amp.
