Another detail job for some of you guys to look at...

*** Copied directly from Detailingworld.com ***

This was done last month but I've only just found time to catch up on some write ups. It wasn’t one I was planning on showing but I figured it would be a good one to do in the end so we start from the correction stage, with the car in for 3 days...

Looks pretty good in that pic already, but if you look closer you know it's not good news when you can see buffer trails when there's no direct light on the paintwork...

Turns out the owner had previously requested a valeter to give the car a machine polish but as you can see they didn’t do the best job, as can be seen further when the Sun Gun comes out to play...

Luckily the paint readings on all metal and plastic panels were healthy enough to allow me to go hard at the paint, using a 3M Compounding Pad @ 2000rpm's with Fast Cut Plus & Ultrafina with a drop of one of Gloss-It's new products:

This is my favourite product at the moment, it reduces dusting, primes pads nicely and totally transforms some polishes, especially the Gloss-It ones via Rotary and sticky paint is now just a slight inconvenience

Test section before:

During:

After:

50/50 on the bootlid shows the contrast in clarity of the paintwork:

This is typically the kind of random scratch that was left as it was too deep to safely polish/sand out:

Menzerna's new 80mm pads (loving these just now too!) were used for the tighter areas:

Before:

After:

The vents were removed to enable me to fully correct the surrounding areas:

Before:

After:

50/50 on the N/S wing:

Fully corrected:

50/50 on the door:

Rear 1/4 before:

The side grills/fins/what ever you want to call them were a bit tarnished so while they were off I cleaned them up with some Brilliant Metal Polish and a CCS Polishing Pad:

After Menzerna 203S:

Some of the worst areas such as the sideskirts and majority of the bumpers were corrected with a Gloss-It wool pad:

These areas were then refined with Menzerna 203S and the rest of the car was done with Menzerna 85RE.

Pictures from then on were few and far between due to a 1:30am finish on the 2nd day so this was the rest of the process before the final pics:

LSP - Top Inspection wipe down followed by Zym0l Vintage.

~Exterior Glass - New Glass Sealant currently on test.
~Interior Glass - Eimann Fabrik Clear Vision.
~Tailpipes - Wire Wool and Raceglaze Alutech followed by BF Metal Sealant.
~Wheels - Blackfire Metal Sealant.
~Tyres - 3 coats of Gloss-It Signature Tyre Gloss.
~Engine Bay - Aerospace 303 Protectant.

Interior:

~ Thorough Hoover.
~ APC wipe down.
~ Leather cleansed and fed with Raceglaze twins.
~ Mats lightly shampooed with Autosmart Brisk.
~ Shuts with Prime Strong
~ Rubber Seals with Raceglaze trim dressing.

Final wipe down with Werkstat Carnauba Glos and here's the result of 35 hours work :thumb:

Wow that looks good after.

Same colour as my Dads (merc paint code wise). What sort of cost would something like that be?

http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/acatalog/detailing-services-service-options.html

According to the text, that was a 3 day job, which would have been classed as a "major paint correction detail" so £895 + VAT

That's a lot of money for a machine polish.

If you want the best, you have to pay for the best

Remember though, that was 35 hours worth of work, and its not just a polish.

I like reading the detailing threads and I appreciate the work that goes in.

It is just a machine polish though, something that the guys are skilled at doing.

Although if it was 35 hours work, £25 an hour isn't bad, which sounds a lot different from 900.
