is their any markings on the block that tell me what engine it is,
Background info, just got a Letter from the DVLA saying that during my last MOT they found a discrepancy between my chassis number and engine number, now ive had the car three years and done everything on it myself, and its never come up before.... so now ive got a new log book with updated details, this happenned to anyone else?

It should be stamped on the bellhousing flange. It will be on the front of your engine
I would rather lose by a mile because i built my own car, than win by an inch because someone else built it for me.

In addition to my first post, it may be unreadable at first due to paint/rust so you may need to get a wire brush in there.
This is from topbuzz website for a 20xe quote: The engine code shall be stamped below the cylinder head (up to 1993), usually on a small flat surface. But after 1993 the location moved to the edge of the cylinder block, transmission side.

Thats not completly accurate. Ive had 2 XEs out of a 89 Astra and a 92 Callibra and it was on the bellhousing flange on both
