You know, I've been thinking this too lately. There's just something about them that look good.

My first car was a mk6 escort, and i really wanted a Gti for my 2nd.
My 1.6 Si actually handled really well, even on cheapo budget tyres.
Reliability was great too. Never had any problems other than a dodgy altenator, but it turned out to be nothing but a dodgy wire which i fixed no problem.
If you do think about an RS2000, the FWD ones are faster and more fun so i've heard.
I had a pic of an awesome GTi. It was a black mk6 with the mk5 RS2000 bonnet bulges moulded on & slight bad-boy bonnet, deep dish euro wheels and pretty low. Its was uber tasty!

Not really that quick but a nice ride.. do look nice and few mods make them look nice... but after driving my 106 gti i much preferd the 106 to the escort tbh.

I looked at them, and insurance is quite bad for them, they are bad for rot apparently even if the body looks mint it can be knackered underneath, especially the rear chassis legs.

Performance is pretty dull, they rot like fuck. Better off getting an early redtop cavalier.
