the nurburgring is full of undulations actually...and some areas arnt exactly perfectly smooth tarmac either.

i'm not saying the RS's suspension tech will get 'binned' just that its not nearly as clever as the GTR setup which has pushed boundries in far more areas than just eliminationg torque steer, which a multitude of other companies have already succeded in doing anyway

Yeah, but there is a slight difference in cost of the car and budget to produce the car.

Of course the GTR is going to be more tech. Its Jap. It would be nothing without crazy technology, but break it down to bang for your buck and the Focus does pretty well.

Cost of RS

Cost of GTR

Restrictions on GTR, and on the RS????

Nurburg cannot be compared to a normal B road in this country at all.

The Focus isn't about just reducing torque steer is it. Have you ever driven any car with over 300bhp through the front wheels. Its not just about torque, its about getting the power down on the road, without wasting it, or having the TC system kicking in reducing the power by far too much.

That is exactly what the video is saying...........

you can't bring cost into this, as that wasn't mentioned once,

and i don't see why you feel testing on propably the worlds most demanding track wouldnt make a car handle well on B roads, they are straights punctuated by varying corners and ups and downs camber etc, sounds like nurburgring to me

I think the difference in cost was part of the reason (if not, the whole reason) Autocar did this test.
If the two cars were similarly priced, then it wouldn't have been that big a deal.

When the GTR was released, it was compared to cars twice its value. Now the same is happening, but the shoe is on the other foot for the Nissan.

Errrrr of course you can.

If I buy a car that costs £5k, and a car that costs £25k, which do you expect to have the superior suspension, the superiour EVERYTHING.

If cost means nothing, then I should write a letter to Mercades, as the quality of the materials is no better than say an Audi, so why charge far more? What about Porsche? They've had the same interior design for years now, so why is it it costs far more than say a 370z????

The porsche handles on rails. Research suspension a bit more and find out about why things cost what they do.

The budget for the GTR would have been far more than the RS. Each engine is hand made..... Is the Focus hand made anywhere????

A demanding race track is not a country road. Re-watch that video, and show me one single part of the Ring that comes anything close to the undulations and rises and falls.

Nurburg is a good place to test and get a basic feel for a car, its the new 0-60 stat.

You don't have 180 degree bends, with 5 wear holes on the inside wheel, and a bump on the exit, followed by a few more potholes, maybe a drain on a race track.

The cannot be compared at all.

The Nurburgring shares a lot of characteristics with the typical b-road. Loads of up and down, off camber corners and dodgy bumps. The only thing missing really is the odd pot-hole. But then you do have the big bumpy slippery kerbs which is probably a lot like dropping a wheel off a country lane. If you were on a b-road with nothing coming the other way it would be just as good.

The point of it is that it is a good constant to compare cars at the absolute limit so when you waste all your money on a Focus RS and head down the pub, so long as no one has a Nissan GTR, your gonna be the big man.
