Used to love these as a lad. One of my school teachers (Miss) had one
I think you'll maybe struggle to find one in good nick now though!!?
172 will be quicker, better condition & not much more to buy?

take a look around for a valver instead, not much in it and always the possiblity for making it a hybrid
also the 1.8 valver is group 11 and you can find some well spec'd clios around for bout £2k

Bit of a collectors item now and due to the weight advantage not much difference in pace compared to the 172.
I would love one myself.

Is it a Williams 1/2/3?
Also insurance groups means didly shit insurance wont be much different between the Williams and the 16v

There old
That's the thing with some of these old Hot Hatches getting reputations as being legends...when you actually drive them they are a big let down.
On the other hand the MK2 Golf GTI 16V i had was amaizing.Perfect steering..great brakes..smooth gearchange..comfortable etc etc

i had a sports blue 449 (often confused with williams blue) one for a couple of years. i would have another one tommorow, steering was spot on but you sacrificed the turning circle. power was amazing just with a k&n (although the hill power system was highly reccomended), power boost valve, full de-cat system with a 4 branch manifold and a chip.
only down sides are rot and make sure the cambelt and rollers get changed well before they need doing as i was the only one out of 5 friends that didnt have a belt go.
do it

no drop a 2ltr into it
insurance wise there great because they are so cheap on the insurance compared to the williams
but as someone else says, a mk2 golf gti, but get the 16v later model as it comes with power steering
old skool car all the way

I like them, I was surprised when I saw 2 being beaten by Corsas and Novas down the strip though.

nice cars mate ive had two in the past, makes you sick when you put them into a garage for sumit tho, nobody seems to like working on them and just charge what they want.
depends what you want really, i wud say a corsa or nova valver will see them off no problem..
