Long shot but i know alot of the CS badz bois like to ride in leather!
Fancy a project bike, so going to look at a 1988 Yamaha FZR 400 ex-up tomorrow!

buy my vfr 400.
just check usual wear and tear on the old bike, i seem to recall they had problems with the earlier ex up systems?
they were built tough back then though, so should be ok

Always check the headstock on the frame for cracking

Can't remember anything specific apart from the exup system as mentioned. However it will be hard to find a decent example these days as they're getting on a bit and most will be tatty. Check everything

Also check how straight it all is, look down the forks, look at the frame for any unusual dents or even cracks, or bodged repairs

when i rode a mates old fzr it was really narrow andc personally felt a bit un stable which is why i went for a cbr 400 but also liked my mates zxr400.
also with his fzr its made a horrible tapping noise when styarting up but after 30 secs was fine but it cost a bit to fix.

Cheers guys.
Graeme. Im only buying it for a cheap project and to nock about on (havent been riding regualary in nearly 2 years, and even then it was 125's)
And the exup system as been removed. Been searching google, and cant find much on them bar the fact that people disconect them as the extra power it gives at lower revs is not worth it or something

Well i purchased the bike! A little rough around the egdes, but overall brilliant little bike.
I listen to everyones advise, and i especially what dizzy said. The engine didnt rattle one bit (started from cold) but just needs tyding.
A little laquer peal around the rear light and some one has attemtped to sort it. FAILED.
Horn isnt connect and the rad fan has been removed. No exup system, so basically straight through from the engine to the carbon can. Sounds nice.
Going to change the chain and sproket, sort the little wiring things out, then should be good to go!
PS. Coundlt believe how light these bikes are!
